Had not heard about this, so unsure how rampant the problem is – that said the fix is already in – thanks to the guys at www.yodelay.com
People with any sense at all will know the truth that when Nick Robinson writes :
For the past two decades no politician with a prospect of power dared attack the Murdoch empire.
… he is not only right – the sad thing is that nobody – NOBODY – has had the courage before to come out against the Empire.
Finally at last, maybe a chink in the armour has been unearthed – and I for one truly hope that the rampant bias, strong arming and agendas that is News International, might not only be coming home to roost in the UK – but might also cross the pond and start opening some eyes in the USA as well.

It has taken me a while to write this post. Sometimes news just hits you. You keep going – distilling the meaning and then at some point in the future – you revisit. I am revisiting.
I have got to that age where contemporaries of mine are dying. Actually – I was 16 when a contemporary of mine first died. Since then only a few people in my immediate circle have ‘moved on’. Even fewer – thankfully – of my really close friends. So when they do, it makes a significant mark.
When I first heard of the news of my long time friend Keith Brandon dying in London, his wife had sent me a message. I called her. We talked. Our hey day of friendship was the 70s through the 80s – and like so much in life , we lost touch. Didn’t help that I moved to California in 1990, but when I found myself back in London a few years ago – I looked up Keith and Alison.
Our friendship was centered on so many different things – including music. Our tastes just meshed. The point of this post is not to write about Keith, and our past. Not to ask ‘why’ ? But rather to stop for two minutes and celebrate his life – through Music.
Keith and Alison were already married when I first met them in 1976. Hats off to them both how their love and marriage survived all the perils of the modern world – until now. The Grateful Dead weren’t part of our album libraries – Jane’s Addiction hadn’t even been formed. But as I ended the conversation with Alision, tears dropping down my cheek, I looked up and heard ‘Ripple’ playing on the stereo.
Keith is survived by Alison, their daughter Jenny and their son Marc. Love to them all. My heart is with them.

Ripple was originally written and recorded by the Dead in 1970. The particular version playing was the Jane’s Addiction cover on the album Deadicated. Something about this song comes together on this album – and the significance of it starting to play as I hung up on Alison – well it just has to be recorded for posterity.
Ripple
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?
It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they’re better left unsung.
I don’t know, don’t really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.
There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then whos to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.
Glad to see liveBooks customer and architectural photographer Tim Griffith is on ‘One Eyeland’ – which if you haven’t visited, please do. Some superb imagery awaits.
Meanwhile – enjoy this stunning visual of Tim’s – yes – Dubai. It kind of reminds me of a cover of a science fiction novel – know what I mean ?
Rather a nice site from India – if indeed the images are unnerving …

Chapter 1: The Cabbie from Vincent Laforet on Vimeo.
When I was asked to interpret this still, a thousand different ideas flooded my mind. I wanted to create a dynamic film that took the audience on a journey and showed off the many strengths of this new breed of HD DSLR cameras, such as the Canon 7D, which we shot this film with. The camera’s low light capabilities and light weight allow you to do things you’d never think to try with traditional cameras. This has been an amazing experience and it’s just the beginning.
I hope you enjoy this short – we had a blast making it!
Submissions for the next chapter are due February 11 using the last still from this film which you can download on the contest page. Learn more about the contest here – vimeo.com/groups/beyondthestill
In an attempt to provide some content to this blog – I am perusing my other blogs trying to find things of relevance to a blog on photography. This struck me as a good one. It is a photo. It is a good one. It is interesting. What mmore do you need ?

So I was going to post this to Facebook directly – and found that it was too long – and then I remembered – wait – I have half a dozen blogs – surely one of them could serve as the platfrom for a post – so Webservations it is >>>
When I was much (much) younger and actually understood the Maths I was studying, I read a wonderful little book called Flatland by Edwin Abbott. At one level it was a commentary on social hierarchy and at another an examination of the resistance of humans to recognizing – much less understanding – the concept of multiple dimensions. The book was written in 1884 BTW.
Just been watching a wonderful Ted Talk on ‘E8′ (or as it is affectionately known – Garrett Lisi’s Theory of Everything ) two years after it was recorded.
In the past 125 years, we seem to have developed a little – and now routinely talk of (that is different to understand) multi-dimensional space. In Garrett’s case (he is focussed on a theoretical model with 8 dimensions, dubbed E8 – that he ‘hopes’ IS the unified field theory we have been searching for around a century now (maybe longer) – I use hope loosley – he seems to be working with something more than hope
At the end of the talk, Garrett was asked to explain E8 a little further by the host and when he did, I couldn’t help but think of Edwin’s book as he talked of how different aspects of the 8 dimensions spin in and out of focus as the model spins around.
OK – this is hard to explain – happy to report that I am truly excited to be listening to Garrett talk first hand – very soon. YOWZA. More on that later.
(BTW fellow followers – Garrett is a Maui Resident – we truly have an eclectic, stunning, and extraordinary collection of residents on this island of ours.)

- my name tagged on a ‘fugitive site’. FTW (sic). Now of course there are some good reasons why I should indeed be listed there – but have to say – still caught me unawares. Turns out I am not the fugitive – and the tagging was a tag of course to distant relative (we believe – we have talked about it) … John Philpin – the Criminal Profiler who amongst other things wrote “Stalemate: A Shocking True Story of Child Abduction and Murder”.
Author John Philpin, one of the first independent criminal
profilers, is an internationally recognized expert on violent behavior and criminal investigation. Philpin is a frequent consultant to law enforcement and the media.
He writes a lot of stuff - check out his books at Amazon.
John also has a son – goes by the name of Five – this is one of the sites and businesses he is involved with.
SO how did I get that alert to begin with ?
Well – as good practice I do have Google Alerts set to ping me with mentions of my name out there on the interweb thingies. (Allows me to keep nefarious commentary under control) – of course – a little easier to do with an unusual name – bit harder if you are called ‘John Smith’ Useful thing though – even if there is occasional confusion
